He became principal of Wooldridge Elementary School. Gullett moved to the position of supervising principal of Fulmore, Baker, and Wooldridge Elementary schools. In 1924, he returned to Austin High School as principal until his death in 1929. Every summer he also served as the principal of the University Demonstration School.

He also was the principal of Austin High School when the Red Jackets, the first school sponsored group to allow any girl to participate, was founded. T.A. Gullett died in the summer of 1929, but he left students a parting message that was published in the 1929 Comet

"Given youth, strength, intelligence, ambition, the will to do, the mind to direct the doing, the time and strength with which to do - there is little limit to one's power to achieve. Add to these a loving heart, and the world will bless you for having lived."
