History - A day at Gullett in the 90's

A former Gullett student was so kind to share a glimpse into the past with a wonderful video from the 90's.  Please see his note to our administration and the video below.

Thank you SO MUCH for the tour a few months back!

It was so wonderful to see how much the school has stayed the same over the years. I was showing some of a video to Ms. Greenleaf filmed by my late Grandpa Steve. I was in Mrs. Banta’s 3rd Grade class. It has some good shots of the classrooms and a lot of the animals and critters that Dr. Crowe had up at the school.

Gullett really helped me excel with technology which allowed me to do some pretty awesome things in my life like work at NBC in Bruceville as a Production Assistant and Floor Director after high school and help implement AT&T’s 3G network for the iPhones (before the iPhones where a thing) at their National Data Center. Now, I am a Behavioral Health Social Worker, LMSW. Gullett also instilled a love for the natural aspects of our world and all critters that call it home.

I wanted to also share a few experiences outside of the amazing animals that were really impactful.

  • In 3rd grade we had students and teachers come from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Not only did they talk to us about what it means to be blind, but they set up stations where we could experience what it was like being blind.

  • When in 3rd or 4th grade I remember we were able to build more compassion for the handicapped students after spending part of the day in the Special Education classroom.

These are all things that my own children, ages 10 & 13, haven’t had the opportunity to experience in school, and something I personally never experienced after leaving Gullett. Of course, we have taught the boys to be compassionate towards others and to love and appreciate animals and also the little critters in our world like snakes, spiders and bugs :)

I say all of this because in my heart Gullett is what all schools should be striving to be like to build a better future in this world.

Sincerely,

Edward
