Gullett Gazette - January 2024

Dear Caregivers,

Happy New Year! I absolutely CANNOT believe we are starting 2024! I hope that all of you enjoyed the last few weeks with family and friends. I soaked up all the extra minutes that my teenagers would allow me to have. There is so much to look forward to during this spring semester and we are happy to be back!

A new year is a wonderful time to set goals as individuals, teams, and as a school. Teachers will be reviewing our mid year assessments along with their classroom data to set individual students' goals as well as classroom and grade level goals. As a campus, we continue to work on our goals outlined in our Campus Improvement Plan from the start of the year. One major initiative this year was beginning the process of becoming a Leader In Me school. Teachers have had the initial round of training and are beginning to implement lessons with students. The next phase will be taking a look at various data points to determine next steps to keep growing our Geckos into leaders. One piece of that puzzle is gathering information from all stakeholders-and that includes our caregivers. We would love to hear from as many families as possible on this survey linked here. We will use this information along with the AISD Parent Survey sent out later this year to set goals for campus improvement. Thank you so much for partnering with us on this!

One of our goals is to continue to grow our Guardian of the Gecko program. The sign up is live for the spring semester and we would love to have parents join us for this volunteer opportunity! If you weren’t part of the fall training, no worries, we are offering a Zoom training on January 25th at 6:30. To reserve your day, join the Guardians of the Gecko committee so you can access the sign up sheet and you need to have completed the APIE volunteer screening.

As we get back into the swing of things, I wanted to share a few reminders. Don’t forget that school starts at 7:40 and we hit the ground running with announcements right away! You can drop off your child in the cafeteria as early as 7:15. Our car line runs pretty quickly and is also open starting at 7:15. I know it can be challenging to get back into a routine after not having that morning rush for so long, but we appreciate your cooperation so we can all have a smooth start to the day. As always, thank you for bringing your identification and checking in at the office when coming to campus during the school day.

This spring we still have plenty of fun and excitement along with our continued focus on growing our students. Science Fair, Career Day, Lunar New Year, Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, Field Day, the Talent Show, and Art Show are just a few things we have to look forward to. Of course, none of that would be possible without the incredible work from our teachers and our fabulous caregiver community coming together to ensure that our Geckos finish off the 23-24 school year academically strong with memories to last a lifetime!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Sincerely,

Ms. Thompson
